If you are on a college student budget, shopping is probably not the best thing you should do. However, we can offer some suggestions on where you can find some decent stuff without going broke.
Souvenirs
Believe it or not, nearly all of the gifts you need can be found up and down the strip. We like to look around at Walgreens or CVS Pharmacy. At north end of the strip where the Sahara is located is the World's Largest Gift Shop that boasts "if we have it, it is in stock". We also favor the shops just past Planet Hollwood when you pass by the Motorcyle sticking out of the wall (Hardly Davidson). There are a number of small shops nearby with very cheap T-shirts and gifts. Lastly, the Fashion Show Mall has some decent priced stores.
Alcohol and Refreshing Drinks
What Vegas trip would be complete without a little alcohol? I know not everyone drinks, but you will get thirsty in Vegas year round. You need to stay hydrated but bottled water can get expensive. During the day, you will see folks selling bottled water for $1.00 out of a trunk. Nothing wrong with it, but I can tell you that you can get the same bottle for 50 cents at most gift shops. Alcohol is best purchased from any of the shops along the strip. Watch for specials. Whether beer, wine, champagne, or harder stuff, it is much cheaper at drugstores than it is in the casino bars.
Candy and Chocolate
Again, you can use the drugstores; CVS and Walgreens to find an abundant supply of candy. Be careful about shopping the trendy Candy Store outside of Paris (Sugar Factory). This is very expensive. Everyone is different but I picked up a 6 pack of dice suckers for $12 at a gift shop. Now that isn't cheap, but it is a pretty cool gift (although I will probably open then up and eat them soon).
Technology
Be really careful about going after batteries from any of the specialty camera or watch shops. You will be amazed when they find just the right battery, place it in a bag and ring it up for $15. Just hit any pharmacy or smaller gift shop, or even the hotels for batteries. Cameras, etc. can all be bought at these discount places. Other technology such as gadgets for your iPhone or iPad can be found between Imperial Palace and Harrah's but beware of higher than normal prices.
Clothing
Oh you split your pants or tore them? I did that in Germany once. Your best bet is to go to one of the outlet malls located to the South and North of the Strip. The details are provided below.
Just north of the Stip is a mall called Premium Outlets. Here you can find really decent shopping and prices. The North location is two miles from the Stratosphere so really easy to get to by Taxi. For more information on this location please click here for Outlets North.
Just South of Las Vegas Blvd is the Las Vegas Premium Outlets South. It is still located technically on the strip 2.5 miles South of the last Hotel Casino. A taxi is your best choice here as well. For more details visit Premium Outlets South.
